Upgrades can sometimes increase the stats of a piece of equipment and, sometimes, even add extras. The worth of these upgrades is determined by their tiers, requirements and the number of random augmentations that are applied.

When you select an upgrade component to slot into an item the game will display a pop-up window that shows the required requirements. These include the item type (either Weapon or Armor), the tier of that Best item upgrader and the Upgrade Token required, and the amount of progress required to complete the upgrade.

The game will place an item in your inventory once you've met the requirements for an upgrade. The progress bar will update to show you how close to completing the upgrade. You can also check the status of an upgrade by going to any NPC that upgrades items.
